Frequently asked questions
A video won't play.
Videos stream from YouTube, so check your internet connection first. Some videos may be unavailable in your region or removed by the uploader. Try another video, or restart the app.
The subtitles are out of sync or wrong.
Sorry about that! Email us the video title and the timestamp (e.g. 1:54) and we'll fix it.
How do I use karaoke mode?
While a song is playing, tap Karaoke in the bottom player controls. Lyrics go full-screen and highlight as they're sung.
How do I save words and review them?
Tap any word in a subtitle to open the dictionary, then tap Save Word. Find everything under Profile → Saved learning, and tap Review to practise.
The microphone isn't working for shadowing.
Make sure Somaru has microphone permission: iPhone: Settings → Somaru → Microphone. Android: Settings → Apps → Somaru → Permissions.
How do I restore a purchase?
Go to Profile → Settings → Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you used to buy.
How do I cancel my subscription?
iPhone: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Somaru. Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
My streak or progress disappeared.
Make sure you're signed in with the same account on each device. If it's still missing, contact us and we'll look into it.
Delete your account and data
You can permanently delete your Somaru account at any time:
- In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account.
- By email: send a request from your account's email address to bijen857@icloud.com with the subject "Delete my Somaru account".
What gets deleted: your account, saved words, sentences and videos, progress, achievements and study activity. This is completed within 30 days and cannot be undone. Purchase records may be kept by Apple or Google as required by law.
